From November 17th - Hey everybody! Hello once again at the end of another awesome week!
Things are going really well here!!! We are doing an amazing job opening up this area once again and are super excited to get this place GOING!
How is everybody?? how is winter up there in Canada?? We are getting closer and closer to the hot months which means a gradual approach to my DEATH hahahaha. Just jokes!
This week we had the AMAZING opportunity to have a reunion with one of the Elders from our church!! It was soooooo amazing the Spirit was incredibly strong, ne speaks incredible Spanish, he was also quite hilarious and really gave us the spirit and advice and motivation we needed to get our areas going! It was an incredible experience to just be in the same room as him :)
This week we have 2 investigators who are DYING to be baptized! One investigator is Orlando, who is a BOSS. He came to stake conference this weekend by biking!!! He didn't want to miss it for anything. He also has incredible desires to be baptized and is loving the church.
Things are good with Elder Escobar and I!! He loves practicing and learning English with me, and he is doing well speaking and praying in English! He has shared with me some awesome things from Chile, and I am going to need him to teach me some Chilean dances before we part. hahaha. But overall things are good!
I hope you are all GREAT!!! Things are still AMAZZZINNNGGG here and I still can't believe how amazing the mission is. It is an experience that is totally changing my life I tell ya!
Stay awesome and send me some snow when you get the chance! :)
From November 24th - Hey everyone!! Well this week was amazing, we had a TON of success for my birthday week!! So that was the best (and only hahaha) birthday present I needed this week :) Thank you all for the birthday wishes!
As I said we are having tons of success, we found a mountain of new investigators and Elder Escobar and I are working really really well together in taking care of these people. He is hilarious, and we like to joke around a lot, I will have to mimick some Argentina people for you all sometime!
We have one investigator in particular I would like to talk about. His name is Alejandro. And he is PURE GOLD. We found him looking at a list of families who are not completely members so we stopped by. He let us in immediately and we had an amazing visit with him the first time. He told us he wants to quit drinking and taking drugs and smoking... Quite a bit of stuff huh? The next day we stopped by. He told us that he had a very big notice for us! He told us he had been reading in the Book of Mormon and wants to be baptized on the 20th of December!!! :D It was sooooooo amazing to see the expression on his face. Well, that was the one investigator I wanted to share with you! There are many others, unfortunately I dont have time to write a story on each one but I will get to them in the future I promise!!
In our personal lives... Things are hilarious. As I said, Elder Escobar and I are starting to find a.... goofy groove hahaha. This all started one night when Elder Escobar woke up because he pulled his calf and he heard me singing in my sleep LOL, apparently I then stopped singing, got up went to the bathroom and came back to bed, 5 minutes later continued singing the same song. Good times here in Libertad :)
Well everyone, I love you all! I just wanted to say this week after having run into many people going through hard times and lack of belief and not wanting to listen to us still - I wanted to share that I know without a doubt from what I have seen here that this gospel is true.
Kick nuts! ;) - it literally KILLS me that he says that, and I always think to edit it out - but hey, that's our Devon!!!
From December 1st - Hey everyone!
Well this week was a rush! I will start with the BAPTISM that we had! His name is Franco and is 12 years old, his father and mother are not members but the father REALLY wants to be baptized and was so happy when his son was baptized. The crazy thing about this baptism was that I was the one who baptized Franco!!!!!! It was such a crazzzyyyyy experience and the water was apparently super cold for Franco (I enjoyed a quick break from the death heat hahaha) but it all turned out super well!! (Also I may have forgotten a few words in the baptism..... Hey its in Spanish and some crazy old words, give me a break ;)
So! That was definitely the highlight of the weekend. It was a rush but it still was so amazing and turned out fantastic :) Our progressing investigator Alex is doing so great. We are helping him build his house and roof right now. He was smoking 40 cigarettes a day, and now he has told us he is smoking 4-5 a day!!!!!! He comes to church by himself (walking in the rain) and participates in every class!! He is so excited to be baptized and is already inviting people and family to his baptism!!!! He is progressing amazingly and we are working hard with him to get him closer and closer to this life and protection he needs.
Things other than that are going amazing!!! Life is great, the weather hasn't murdered me and we are finding new people to teach every day!!! I am starting to have trouble speaking and writing in English so this may be a struggle in 2 years to talk haha. Unfortunately I don't have a way to send pictures right now so I cant send pictures of the baptism of Franco today! But I promise someday you will get them!!
When you get the chance check out the Church Christmas site (www.lds.org) "He is the Gift"!! The videos are sweet and there is some super cool stuff on there. Stay boss and thank you all so much for your support and love!! Merry Christmas! :D
December 8th - This has been another awesome week here in Buenos Aires, but unfortunately summer is starting to have a big hit on us here hahaha. two days ago we hit 38 degrees with 80% humidity.... That was a tough one!! Luckily we had lots of lessons so we were able to be inside for the majority of the day :)
This week I would like to quickly share a cool story that happened!! We were clapping doors in the morning and we came across an inactive member who we didn't know named Mariano!! We had no idea that he had been living there, but he was so excited to see us! He invited us in and gave us lunch and shared scriptures with us. He still loves the church but has some bad problems with the Word of Wisdom... He cried when we found him, he said it was a heaven sent blessing that we came across him and he was so excited to have us as his friends. After the visit, he loaned Elder Escobar a guitar! Elder Escobar plays a little bit of the guitar so he has been practicing now! Pretty awesome find!
Our progressing investigator Alex is doing very well, he is quitting smoking quickly!! And he is very very excited for his baptism, we are continuing to help him work on his house and roof!
One other non-spiritual story I would like to share which was crazy!!! We were returning to the apartment one night and on one street we came across an INTENSE dog fight!!! These two dogs were just going at it trying to kill each other!! It was pretty crazy, some neighbors and us had to kick the dogs apart but it all turned out okay!
Sadly I don't have too much time to write today! But I love you all and we are doing amazing here in Libertad!! Stay awesome and have a good Christmas week! :)
