Week one done. And it is very true what all missionary Mom's say, I did anxiously await his next email. Pretty excited to wake up this morning and find two emails to read before I started my day. I thought I'd give a brief explanation for those who don't know, what exactly Devon is doing at the MTC (Missionary Training Center). He will be there for at least six weeks learning Spanish, how to work with a companion (he is with another missionary all the time), the day to day missionary routine, and how to better teach others about Jesus Christ and our beliefs. He gets time for personal and companion study, classes on language and teaching, exercise, and apparently great meals (as you will soon read). A district is a group of several missionaries that work and report together. P-Days are their day "off" so to speak where Devon can email home, do laundry, personal things, etc.
Here's the latest from Devon...
"Hey everyone!
Well I am here in the Buenos Aires MTC, I made it okay and intact :) (except one of my bags hasn't made it yet - apparently my bag has been found, the people here at the MTC are really good at calling everyday and making sure that it is being sent here, I hope I get it soon! ) I hope all is well and that you are all happy! I am very happy here!!
The first two days were tough, adjusting and comprehending the fact that I basically went from pole to pole. But things have settled down quite a bit and I'm feeling much more at ease. The District and I are practically all family, we get along so well and love being together, I love these guys. The food they serve here is AMAZING!! There is not a meal in the day I am not ever looking forward to.
I will share my first missionary experience with all of you. At the Edmonton Airport as I was waiting by my gate I noticed a woman working for a charitable organization for kids around the world. I noticed she was having a hard time talking to people and she was becoming frustrated and depressed. Then a thought dawned on me : what would a missionary, a direct representative of Jesus Christ do? So I went and talked to her and visited for a bit about the organization and my mission, she was sooooooo happy and thanked me and said she was very grateful for people in the world like me. I figured I had better start off my mission by doing a missionary act before I even got to the field.
My companion is Elder Seffker, a good guy. We have started to work well together, I will say he is very very different from me hahahahaha, just in his personality and physicality and things like that. At first I kinda was frustrated by all our differences and his strangeness but feeling the Spirit here everyday made me look at him as a brother and friend and we work well together. My two teachers here are fantastic and I love speaking and practicing Spanish with all the Latino Elders. They are all so nice, laughing and smiling and always saying hello and helping us with our Spanish. Two Latino Elders who share a room with us are so amazing and nice, I love both of them.
I love you ALL so much!! I will do my best to write to all of you, we don't have too much time to email on P Days, I will always email this group email and my family comes first after this but I will do my best to write to all of you!!! Thank you for all the support, I can tell that I'm going to love these two years and it will fly by!!!!
Love Your Canadian (who is a celebrity basketball star over here with a Canadian accent apparently)
Elder Healey"
Thrilled to hear him doing so well - a well fed Devon is a happy Devon!! Hahaha - I would know! Until next week....
