Safe In Argentina

Yesterday was in the top three hardest days of my life!!!  Hard to say goodbye for two years...

Here's Devon the night before in his missionary suit - shooting some last free throws on our basketball court.  I took the pictures from in the kitchen as I could tell he wanted some time alone.  When I finally went outside he said, "You know saying goodbye to this basketball court is harder in some ways then saying goodbye to people".  I get that.  Devon spent a lot of time out there sorting things out in his mind and releasing stress.  And a lot of time with friends!!
I was very glad that Jordan showed up at the airport to say goodbye!  I could tell it brought some humor and normalcy to the morning for Devon - they immediately started joking around like they do!  Snapped this shot as we were walking to the terminal.  Jordan stayed with me until Devon had gone through security and to his gate.  And thankfully, Jordan seemed okay to stay while I cried and cried until I was ready to drive home (after we got a Booster Juice).  It was like having a little bit of Devon with me - Jordan has been over so often, he's like another son!

Okay - enough of that!!!

After three flights and over 15 hours of travelling, Devon arrived safely to the Missionary Training Center in Buenos Aires this morning!!!!  Now, I can relax a WHOLE lot more!  This was his email to me:

"Hey Mom, I am in the MTC, just letting you know I made it okay.
One of my bags did not make it, but it will be at the MTC tomorrow morning.
The flights were good I met up with two other missionaries from Calgary. Just doing all
my first day stuff now. Thursdays will be my Preparation Day to email - so email me then,
unfortunately I have not figured out these spanish key boards yet so I only could email you!
Give my best and love to everyone! Love,  Elder Devon Healey"

And so it begins.  Don't worry I won't put EVERY email he sends in this blog.  But enough to keep everyone updated.  Until next Thursday.......

Busy weekend and one more day...

Tomorrow at this time Devon will be on the first leg of his flight to Buenos Aires!  Last night Devon wrote up a 'to-do' list and at the end he wrote "You Made It!"  So true.  He has worked very hard to get ready for his mission in many ways.

Devon gave a truly remarkable talk on Sunday about Agency.  He spoke with confidence and conviction. Afterwards, the day was full - lunch with family and an open house with friends from school, community, and church!  It was a bit overwhelming for him at times, all the people wishing him well.  But he was so happy and thought it was a great day.

Enjoy some pics from the day and stay tuned for an update (maybe tomorrow) on his travels!
